Neglect

  • pressures to survive and lack of knowledge cause many parents to neglect their children.

Institutionalization

  • 90% of children in orphanages in S.E. Asia are placed there by their families.

Trafficking

  • 45% of trafficked children are placed there by their families

Abortion

  • It is estimated that 2/3 of maternal deaths in Burma are from botched abortions. This shows the actual abortion rate to be much higher. (Abortion is not legal in Burma)
